But this was the first time she had asked Johnny to do something similar. Johnny wondered what to buy and for whom. He was reminded of Bobbie, a kid with messy hair, who sat right behind him in the class. Bobbie didn’t have a coat. Every morning, Johnny would find Bobby shivering while walking to school. Johnny chose a red corduroy one with a hood.
It looked very warm. “I am sure this is the perfect gift,” he thought. He put the coat and a ten-dollar bill on the counter and pushed them towards the man behind the counter. “Is this a Christmas present for someone?” he asked kindly. “Yes,” Johny replied shyly. “It’s … for Bobbie.” The man smiled and put the coat in a bag. He wished Johnny a Merry Christmas. That evening, Grandma helped Johnny wrap the coat in Christmas paper and ribbons. She told Johnny to write, “To Bobbie, From Santa Claus” on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy while helping the needy. Both of them drove over to Bobbie’s house.
On the way, she told Johnny that Santa had chosen them as his helpers. On reaching there, Johnny flung the wrapped gift down on the step of Bobbie’s house, pounded the doorbell twice and flew back to Grandma. They waited in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobbie. He looked down, looked around, picked up his present, and began to open it hurriedly. Johnny was watching from behind the car. He could see Bobbie opening the gift pack eagerly. The moment Bobbie saw the coat; he began jumping up and down the stairs of his house. In a moment, he began crying. He knelt down and folded his hands to thank Santa Claus for the gift. Johnny felt tears rolling down his cheeks too. Now, little Johnny knew that Santa was alive… AND THAT HE WAS ON HIS TEAM!
