Aladdin

Aladdin

A long time ago in Baghdad, there lived a poor boy named Aladdin. Once he was playing with his friends in the streets of his city. A stranger came up to him and hugged him. “My boy, I am your long lost uncle,” he said. Aladdin was baffled but then his uncle showered many gifts on him. One of those gifts was a ring which Aladdin put on his finger immediately. Aladdin was overjoyed and ran home to tell his mother all about this newly found relative.

She was surprised but on meeting the man, she decided that he must be a relative. She was happy to receive so many gifts as she had been facing lot of difficulties since her husband’s death. A few days later, the uncle led Aladdin out and far beyond the city gates. On their way, Aladdin’s uncle told him many interesting stories. Eventually they reached the foot of a mountain. Aladdin’s uncle stopped and asked him to go to a tree that he was pointing to.

Aladdin went near the tree. Just as he held the tree trunk, the ground under him gave way and he fell down with a thud. He found himself trapped in a dark cave whose door had got opened suddenly. “Aladdin, you will find a lamp on the ground near you. Please give it to me,” Aladdin’s uncle shouted. Aladdin was surprised to find that his uncle already knew about the cave. “Uncle, how do you know about this cave and the lamp?” he asked the man. “l am not your uncle.

I am a magician. I brought you here so that I could get the lamp. Give me the lamp, the man replied. Aladdin asked the magician to help him step out of the cave. The magician insisted that Aladdin should hand over the lamp first but Aladdin was adamant. So the man closed the cave door and left him inside. It was very cold and dark. Aladdin got scared and grappled with the stones.

The ring on his finger struck a stone and out came a genie, “l am your humble servant. Please tell me what can I do for you?” asked the genie politely. At first, Aladdin panicked. But he was a brave boy. He asked the genie to help him get out of the cave. No sooner had he uttered these words that he found himself out of the cave. Aladdin thanked the genie and both became good friends. As for the stranger, he was never seen again.
